Frankman Motor Company's Built for More program delivers pro-engineered custom Chevy truck builds, GMC restomods, and full ground-up classic vehicle conversions — the same shop the Midwest has trusted for over 15 years, now taking on builds nationwide. We specialize in 1960–1989 Chevy and GMC trucks (C10, K5 Blazer, Suburban, Squarebody, dually crew cabs), pro-touring restomods (Chevelle, Camaro, Nova, Mustang fastback), lifted 4x4 conversions (Bronco, Scout, K-series), and any classic vehicle our customers can dream up — sourced through our classic dealership and reborn under one roof. Already have a vehicle? Perfect. Don't have the right one yet? We'll help you find a solid starting point through our dealership — a strong foundation can make or break a build, so we make sure yours begins on the right one.
Every build sits on a premium aftermarket chassis (Roadster Shop, Art Morrison, or equivalent), runs a modern drivetrain (LS, LT, LSA, Coyote, HEMI, or diesel paired with 4L65E / 4L80E / 6L80E / TREMEC / TKX / MAGNUM transmissions), and gets the full FMC treatment: chassis, drivetrain, body, paint, and a custom interior from our in-house upholstery shop. Builds typically run $75,000 to $300,000+ and take 12 months to 3 years from concept to keys depending on chassis, drivetrain, and finish complexity. We ship anywhere in the lower 48.
Our shop manager, Joey Bergjord, personally reviews every build request and works directly with each customer through the full process — weekly photo updates, transparent communication, and zero outsourced surprises. We don't put eBay or Amazon junk on a Frankman build. Every Built for More project is engineered with the same partner brands the country's top builders use — Roadster Shop, Art Morrison, Porterbuilt, Ridetech, Holley, Wilwood, Vintage Air, Dakota Digital, and the rest. PPG paint, mixed in our booth from clean solids through deep custom candies. If a part can fail at 80 mph, it's not coming on a build that leaves our shop.
Logos shown are trademarks of their respective owners. Frankman Motor Company sources parts from these suppliers; partner logos indicate the standard of parts installed on our builds.
Frankman Built for More builds aren't driveway-only show pieces — they earn floor space at the country's top events. Our crew-cab K4 is featured at Goodguys' Iowa 4th of July show — the kind of honor every builder works toward. We've shown at Dino's Car Show and the Texas C10 Nationals, and the goal is simple: a Frankman build at every event worth showing at.
There are bigger custom build shops in the country. Velocity Restorations in Florida builds Broncos. Roadster Shop in Illinois builds chassis. Ringbrothers in Wisconsin builds magazine-cover trophies. Kindig-It in Utah builds for TV. ICON 4×4 in California sets the high-watermark price tier. Every one of those shops has a niche they own, and we tip our hats to all of them.
Frankman's niche is different. We're a family-owned dealership and build shop that has been in Sioux Falls since 1988. We sell classics out of our showroom, route them through the same restoration department that builds high-six-figure restomods, and ship the finished product anywhere in the lower 48. The thing the bigger names can't easily offer is the integration: buy a classic from our inventory, build it under one roof, ship it home. Most builders only build. Most dealers only sell. We do both, on the same property, with the same team. That's the version of "one-stop shop" we mean.
We started with classic Chevy trucks because that's what kept walking through the door — 1967 C10s, square-body K5 Blazers, Suburbans on Roadster Shop chassis, dually crew-cabs on air, 1972 GMC short-beds dropped on coilovers. We still know those platforms cold and they're the deep end of our pool. But the build gallery tells the wider story: Pro-Touring Chevelles, Camaros, Novas, Mustangs, Corvairs, Broncos, Scouts. Pre-war Model As. Post-war Cadillacs. Vintage Porsches. British roadsters like the Triumph TR6. Fiberglass-bodied race cars. We don't discriminate. If you can dream it and we can source it (or you can drop it off), we'll build it. 1960–1989 Chevrolet and GMC is just where we go further than anyone else in the Midwest.
A factory-correct frame-off restoration is a different animal from a pro-engineered restomod. Restoration returns a car to how it left the assembly line. Restomod gives the car the looks, the lines, and the soul of the original while putting modern guts under the skin — LS or LT power, electronic fuel injection, four-wheel disc, modern coilovers or air ride, new wiring, modern climate. The end result is a 1972 truck that drives like a 2026 truck. Both paths have their place, and our restoration team handles either. Built for More is specifically the restomod program: classic outside, modern everything else, engineered to cover ground.
Every Built for More project has Joey Bergjord as the single point of contact from the day the trailer drops your truck off until the day it leaves finished. Joey's direct number is (605) 250-8721. He sends photo updates as the build progresses. He answers questions when you ask them. There's no project manager between you and the work. That arrangement isn't normal at this price tier — most shops insulate the customer from the shop. We don't.
We're in South Dakota, but we build for the country. Customers from Omaha, Minneapolis, Fargo, Des Moines, Madison, Kansas City — that's our daily driving radius. Customers in Texas, Colorado, Florida, the Carolinas, the Pacific Northwest — we ship there weekly. Vehicle transport is part of the job. If you've never built a custom vehicle remotely, the logistics aren't intimidating once you've talked to Joey. We've delivered to every corner of the lower 48.
Every build is custom. The ranges below are honest ranges — Joey scopes your specific project on the first call and gives you a real number.
The dip-your-toe-in build. Modern drivetrain dropped under a vehicle that wears its history honestly — patina paint, aged trim, character. Mechanicals brought up to spec, suspension and brakes upgraded, but no show-quality paint or full restoration. Built to drive and show — proof that these classics are fun no matter how you build them.
* Beware: these can get spendy fast. Listen to Joey when you're planning a patina build — then ask him what he drove to work today, because it's probably his own hot-rod patina C10.
Premium aftermarket chassis (Roadster Shop / Art Morrison), bigger drivetrain, full custom interior, show-quality paint, more involved fabrication. Where most of our builds land.
Full custom from frame up. Hand-built body, exotic drivetrain (LSA, LT5, twin-turbo, race-spec), bespoke interior, show-stopper paint, the works. Builds at this tier are for owners who want a one-of-one.
Why ranges this wide? Chassis choice, drivetrain selection, paint complexity, interior scope, and parts availability all move the number. Call Joey at (605) 250-8721 for a real quote on your specific build.
Every build is unique. Depending on the vehicle, scope, and specs, builds can range from entry-level projects to full six-figure pro-engineered machines. We'll give you a clear estimate before any work begins.
Most builds run 12 months to 3 years. The range is real and depends on a lot of factors — build complexity, whether the existing chassis is kept or replaced, drivetrain swap scope, parts availability, paint and body condition discovered at teardown, and how many scope changes happen mid-build. Joey will walk you through the variables on the first call. We prioritize quality over speed — your build is done when it's done right.
Absolutely — and we want to. Being under the same roof as Frankman Motors' classic dealership gives us a solid sourcing network, so if you need a starting point we'll help you find a good one. A strong foundation can make or break a build, so getting the right vehicle matters to us as much as it does to you. Already found one? Get it purchased and we'll handle transport. Heads up on barn finds though, some need a local tow to get to pavement before we can haul. We've done it plenty of times.
Another perk of being under the same roof as a dealership is that we move cars from all over the country weekly. Vehicle shipping is available and we do it all the time.
Fill out the build request form below or give us a call at (605) 250-8721. Tell us what you're looking for, and our team will walk you through the next steps.
We build everything. While our renders focus on classic Chevy and GMC trucks, we can build any vehicle. Cars, trucks, SUVs. If you can dream it, we can build it.
LS, LT, SBC, BBC, HEMI, Ford Coyote, diesel, you name it. We'll restore a Model A or a Porsche 356, but restomod building is how we prefer to future-proof a build. Modern drivetrain means it fires right up after sitting all winter. You'll thank us later.
All interior work is handled in-house by FMC Kustoms, our dedicated automotive interiors division. Custom upholstery, headliners, door panels, dashboards, and trim. Everything stays under one roof.
We believe in real communication. You'll receive regular updates with photos of your build in progress. You'll always know exactly where your project stands.
Yes. We can modify classics and custom builds for accessibility needs. We work directly with local accessibility dealers and van conversion companies to make sure everything is done right. If you need a ride built around you, let's talk.
That depends entirely on your vision. From chassis and suspension to drivetrain, body, paint, and full custom interiors. We handle everything. Each build is tailored to what you want.
