XL was the top of Ford’s 1963 lineup and stood for extra luxury: bucket seats, center console, additional interior brightwork, V8 only, and the XL horn button. Ford built 18,551 XL convertibles for 1963 against 33,870 fastbacks and 29,713 notchbacks, making the drop top roughly a quarter of XL production. The 390 four-barrel is confirmed by the Z in the warranty number on the data tag. Paint code X is a one-year-only formula for 1963.
